The Mentor Reading Program is up and running. Look how cute they are!
This Mentor Reading Program has been a source of great joy for me. Working on children’s literacy projects is a passion of mine and finding a counterpart at site who shares that passion has made me so happy. We applied for a grant through Friends of Thailand and received funds to buy new books for the library in October. The new school term started in November and getting the program off the ground was rocky at first. Between Sports Days, conferences and other school activities the program did not start as early as I would have liked it to, but it has started now and I am having so much fun teaching students how to be reading mentors and observing them read together. The program takes place on Mondays and Thursdays with half of the students meeting on one day and the other half on the other day. During program time students are paired to read together with one student acting as the Reading Mentor. I love seeing the library filled with students reading together. Makes my little teacher heart so happy. I’m looking forward to working on this program the rest of the time I’m here. Here’s some more pics to melt your heart. 😉
